Evaluation

Here is my evaluation which I have created on a Prezi. I have embedded each video onto my prezi however they have not come up as a video but I do not know the problem for this but there is the link to take you to the video also.

Overall, I think we have created a really impressive and successful media promotion, with all of our skills combined and advanced media products we have created some really creative and interesting pieces of media.

Prezi!!

One of our main aims for this product was to try and make the planning, construction and evaluative stages exciting and interactive and after being introduced to a new progamme called Prezi I was able to do this. It allows you to do far more than a usual powerpoint presentation as all the work is on one black canvas, but you can create pathways, zoom in and out, rotate and upload photos and videos. It gives a new element of creativity which we can build upon to make my evaluation more interesting not only for me but my examiner! Hopefully my evaluation will now be exciting and interactive!

Final Production Finished

All the editing is complete and subsidiary texts are uploaded. The next stage for us is to complete our evaluation.

Our final advert

This is our final magazine advert, because the majority of the photoshop editing was done on Charlie laptop she was able to upload all of the final copies easily.

Researching Layouts

Before making our advert. we needed to research designs and layours of conventional aper adverts in order to follow some basic skills to try and make an eye catching exciting advert which is recognisable as a magazine advert.

These are a few skills i found on the school files in the media area which are accessible to students:

Think about your own desk top publishing skills

On your sketches be sure to indicate layers of image/import

Locate the typography in order to establish in-house style and help focus
the rest of the planning

Present the images you have taken on to a separate sheet of paper and
Annotate them with
Style
Relevance
Sharpness
Mise-en-scene
Crop marks
Re-shoot info

§ Cut and paste sample fonts onto your draft to show scale and a real life effect

§ Make the bottom appear visually heavier with your composition
– The eye prefers this and it is more aesthetically pleasing.

§ Follow your identified conventions when placing text/typography

§ Do not clutter

§ Use original images

§ Make the implied and overt tone relevant to your identified audience

§ Choose pose and camera angle carefully to ensure the positive/negative
representation you need.

Consider background carefully
– Be aware of the need for cropping and the time it will take.

Only 60-70% of the readers will give your advert more than 10 seconds
thought so make it and demanding.

Enjoy the task – it will come across passively in the final artefact

Preparation for the Evaluation

G324 is marked and internally standardised by the centre and marks are submitted to OCR by a specified date, a sample is then selected for external moderation. The unit is marked out of a total of 100 marks: 20 marks for the planning and research and its presentation; 60 marks for the construction; 20 marks for the evaluation.
In the evaluation the following questions must be answered:

In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

How effective is the combination of your main product and ancillary texts?

What have you learned from your audience feedback?

How did you use media technologies in the construction and research, planning and evaluation stages?

DigiPak

This is the final edited work for the digipak. Charlie has uploaded the final copy and we all had a go at editing, luckily we had an experienced member of the group who was able to assist us and use her expertise to make the best effects possible.

A Magazine Advert

Our second subsidiary task was to create a magazine advert. Rachel has uploaded a few examples for inspiration.

Monday 1 March 2010

Digipak layout designs

Here are the 3 designs, as a group we have come up with:

Design 1

This desgin in simple yet effective. Our original intentions was to only use a 4 sided digipak but we came up with many more ideas so will most likely not use this one.
Design 2

This is the layout we are going to use as we all felt it was the most practical and best suited to fit its purpose.

Design 3

It was a close call between this design and the one above, but we thought overall the above was more practical and was the most logical layout to use.

Photoshop Practise

For our subsidiary tasks, photoshop is a very vital part. Because I haven't used it at all I attempted it for the first time, just playing around with different effects, I learnt how to use different layers and cutting out out different shapes.

We have decided to use Adobe Photoshop to edit and produce both our didgipak and magazine advertisement. our school offers this software and also one of our group members Charlie has it on her laptop meaning we can work on this at any time with a skilled member. Photoshop allows us to have a wide range of effects and tools to choose from which will benefit us into making the most effective and creative subsidiary tasks possible. By using the effects we can try to create final products which attract our target audience and keep the same exciting themes throughout.

Band Picture Slideshow

Aswell as taking location shots, Alex also took photos of the band which she has put into a slideshow. This will help with the subsidiary tasks and to keep the continuity.

Our finished music video

Finally finished editing and choosing Youtube

At last the editing is finally finished after many glitches in the process.

With the new modern advances in internet technology bands and artists are able to introduce their music to potentially a massive audience, at low cost without having to join a major recording label. This makes it easier for independant labels to get their music out there. If an artist or band have decided to pay to record, produce and promote their album, distributing their music online becomes a major benefit for Independent artists as it is little or no cost at all to add to online websites such as YouTube. Online websites offer the opportunity to promote the artists or bands to new and existing fans which could lead to an increase in sales through online retailers such as Itunes, it could also be the case that it will apeal to their target audience. Also by releasing music online can mean it is alot quicker and accessible online, especially as buying music has changed nowadays and has become more popular to do so through online websites.

Because of our age as the makers and producers or this project and our target audience are part of the We Media generation. Social networking sites such as Facebook and online sharing websites such as YouTube are very popular within our own generation and also that of our target audience. It is a quick and efficient way to communicate and upload videos to promote new bands to their target audience.
Taking all this into consideration we have decided our music video for The Carpet Monsters would be most successful if we upload to youtube.

Yesss Editing Finished...Well thats what we thought.

We finally finished the final copy of our video, editing completed and all video filmed. Although after saving the copy and thinking it was able to get back up we went on it to look again to find it had been lost. Even with technicians, nobody could find the final project so we had to re edit. Fortunately we had a saved copy of a half edited copy and so we had to stat editing again from this. It was a really annoying moment because we thought we had finished and could relax a bit to find out we were actually more pressured than we thought. But we WILL get this done.

Solving Problems

Because we had to upload into I-movie and then transfer this to Final Cut when we could, the footage has decreased in quality and there are lines flicking throughout most of the footage. This is a problem we are unfortunately going to have to stick with because we cannot find the reason for this or a way to solve it, our technician also cannot help this problem.

Sunday 14 February 2010

Green Screen

Today we filmed some work on Green Screen. The reason we chose to do this was to expland our knowledge of digital technology and to give our work that higher edge. We filmed the shot we wanted for our music video; me 'on the front' of an NME magazine. We used the NME magazine as it is the most likely to feature our music genre, therefore it would be seen and read by our target audience. It was very fun to do and it has no enhanced my knowledge.

Subsidiary Tasks

As one of our subsidiary tasks we have chosen to create a digipak for either a dvd or cd cover of our band.

None of us really knew what this meant we had to include so Rachel has done a little bit of research into Digipaks for us so we can complete this task succesfully.

Wednesday 6 January 2010

A glitch in the editing process

We have come across a problem in the editing process. Instead of uploading the footage to FinalCut we had to upload to I-movie because FinalCut wasn't working. Because we don't want to edit with this programme we are going to have to wait until FinalCut is working again.
